SPECIAL NEEDS MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

Megan Lavell, one of our Autistic students, performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at the 2010 RMG Fall Recital.

"I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music."
- Billy Joel

This quotation is the summation of our objective. Music is healing, expressive, and non-discriminating among its listeners. The Special Needs Music Education Program at Rose Music Group is a success for this very reason. The program combines movement, audio and visual prompts, and touch, in such a way as to allow children and/or adults who could not normally express themselves, to do so.

While our percussion and piano classes have been the most popular, instruction for every instrument is available to our Special Needs' students. Other choices include voice, guitar, woodwinds, brass, string and instruments indigenous to other parts of the world. In most instances, the instructors work in tandem with the students’ behavioral therapists and fellow educators. This allows for each lesson to be tailor-made to suit the individual needs of each student. Our most common successes include: vocabulary expansion through pitch-training, stress coping, memory development and music comprehension. We also partner with national organizations, such as Autism Speaks. Please follow the link below to learn more about Rock the Walk, our largest fundraising concert of the year, with proceeds going to Autism Speaks and our Special Needs Music Ed program. This allows us to make many resources available to our students and their families. One such example is our very popular ME Video, which is provided free of charge. Please see below for more info.

RMG does not provide Music Therapy services. Our programs are education/skill based.
